– Merriam Tsotetsi, Homeowner, Drieziek
In 2017, Habitat for Humanity South Africa identified the Drieziek, Extension 4 community in Orange Farm as a project together with the Department of Human Settlements to partner with to facilitate the building of 42 houses during the Nelson Mandela International Day Build Week. Drieziek Extension 4, Orange Farm, comprises of 1904 stands. Water and sewer reticulation services have been installed on all of the 1904 stands.
Local contractors, NJR Projects and Agisanang Township Developers have been appointed as sub-contractors for the construction of 1000 houses.
Habitat for Humanity SA has mobilized homeowners to participate in the housing development process. Through shelter, we aim to contribute to meaningful social change and development in Drieziek by enhancing capabilities and capitalising on existing resources to build strength, stability and self-reliance on a household level. The programme aims to bring people together to co-create solutions to shelter problems, facilitate access to decent and affordable shelter and to sustain the socio-economic outcomes that emerge from the process.
