What makes a good leader? For us, it’s the strength, dedication and integrity we see in every member of the Leadership Committee in Orange Farm’s Extension 6 (@6) community. We partner with the committee to develop even stronger leaders that can drive positive change within their community.

Habitat facilitated a self-awareness workshop with the @6 leadership in early May. The group discovered their personal strengths and weaknesses and those of their peers.  Moving forward this workshop will help guide the leaders to confidently take ownership of their development projects.

Recently, the committee began to implement their Community Action Plan. Ephraim, the secretary of the @6 committee, took ownership of his development initiative and attended a workshop on Online Strategies facilitated by Inyathelo, the South African Institute for Advancement. In his words:

I would love to express my gratitude to Habitat for Humanity for the opportunity I’ve been granted to go to the Inyathelo Advancement workshop. I am honoured by the overwhelming support, faith and resources invested in me. I am fully aware that everything initiated for me is done for the greater good of my community. I therefore assure… that I clearly understand its importance and my role in imparting these skills within my community.”
